In 2007, Indepth Research Institute played a crucial role in strengthening Uganda's economic data infrastructure by assisting the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) in preparing guidelines and tools for the Producer Price Index (PPI). This project provided UBOS with the necessary resources to effectively track and analyze price changes at the producer level.
The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), responsible for producing reliable and timely economic data, recognized the need to enhance its capacity to measure producer price inflation. Accurate PPI data is essential for policymakers, businesses, and researchers to understand price trends in the economy and make informed decisions. UBOS engaged Indepth Research Institute to provide technical assistance in developing the necessary infrastructure for PPI compilation.
Indepth Research Institute worked closely with UBOS to understand their specific requirements and the unique characteristics of the Ugandan economy. The project involved the development of user-friendly PPI analysis worksheets to facilitate data processing and analysis. Crucially, Indepth Research Institute also developed comprehensive PPI guidelines to ensure consistent and accurate application of the methodology. The project culminated in a detailed task report that documented the entire process and provided recommendations for ongoing PPI data collection and analysis. This collaboration between Indepth Research Institute and UBOS strengthened Uganda's statistical capacity and improved the availability of key economic indicators.
